Illawarra tradesman Connor Pringle, 20, remembered by family after being killed in construction site injury

Jun 06, 2023

The family of a 20-year-old tradesman killed in a worksite accident in the Southern Highlands say they are "shocked and devastated" by his sudden death.

Connor Pringle was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital last Monday after a fall at a construction site in Burradoo, a suburb of Bowral in the state's Southern Highlands, but died on Thursday.

Safework NSW is investigating the incident.

NSW Police confirmed a crime scene was established, and a report would be prepared for the coroner.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Pringle's relative Erin Riley said his parents, Racheal and Mark, and the rest of their family had been shaken by his sudden death.

"Everyone's in shock. It's just so tragic," she said.

"He had his whole life ahead of him, and then one Monday morning it was over.

"Everyone is really sad; it's a really sad time."

Mr Pringle is remembered as having a heart of gold.

He left school young to pursue employment, where he stood out for his work ethic.

"He was such a hard worker and so loving and supportive," Ms Riley said.

Mr Pringle is also remembered as fun-loving and cheeky. Ms Riley said she struggled to find photos of him where he wasn't "goofing around".

"He would do anything for anyone but also liked to have a joke," she said.

"Almost everyone has described him this week as cheeky."

In a statement on Facebook, Mr Pringle's father wrote that his son "filled our heart and our home with joy, love, and his cheeky personality".

A GoFundMe for funeral costs and the family has raised more than $18,000 in six days.

Ms Riley said the family was well known in Oak Flats, where everyone had rallied in support.

"Mark and Racheal have supported so many people so many times, so we feel it's our turn to help them," she said.

Mr Pringle's death comes as two other serious incidents occurred in the regional in less than a fortnight.

The day Mr Pringle died, SafeWork confirmed a second site was being investigated after another worker fell at a construction site on Terralong Street in Kiama.

It is understood the man was part of the construction of the shopping centre's new roof. He was airlifted to Wollongong Hospital with serious injuries.

One week earlier, a 52-year-old man was airlifted to Wollongong Hospital from a worksite in Currarong on the South Coast after being crushed by an excavator bucket.

He has since been discharged from the hospital.
